Mendelsoohn Felix - "Elijah" Oratotio Op.70 (Full Score)

Ένα από τα τελευταία έργα του Γερμανού συνθέτη Φέλιξ Μέντελσον (1809-1847), το ορατόριο Elijah παρουσιάστηκε για πρώτη φορά στο Φεστιβάλ του Μπέρμιγχαμ της Αγγλίας τον Αύγουστο του 1846. Ενθουσιασμένος από την ανταπόκριση του κοινού, ο Mendelssohn έγραψε πανηγυρικά στον αδελφό του: «Όχι λιγότερα από τέσσερα ρεφρέν και τέσσερα τραγούδια χειροκροτήθηκαν». Το κοινό εξακολουθεί να ανταποκρίνεται με ενθουσιασμό σε αυτό το υπέροχο ορατόριο. Ενάμιση αιώνα αργότερα, ο Ηλίας είναι ένα από τα πιο συχνά εκτελούμενα χορωδιακά έργα, αγαπημένο του κοινού παντού.
Στην Παλαιά Διαθήκη, η ιστορία διηγείται πώς ο προφήτης Ηλίας υπερασπίζεται τη θρησκεία των Ισραηλιτών ενάντια στη λατρεία της φύσης του Βάαλ. Ο Μέντελσον φαντάστηκε τον Ηλία ως «δυνατό, ζηλωτή και, ναι, ακόμη και κακότροπο, θυμωμένο και μελαγχολικό... αλλά και φέροντα ψηλά, σαν να ήταν πάνω σε φτερά αγγέλων». Η αντίληψή του για τον Ηλία ζωντανεύει αμέσως και έντονα σε μια εμπνευσμένη σειρά από σολιστικά και χορωδιακά αποσπάσματα γεμάτα συναρπαστικό δράμα και πλούσιο μουσικό συμβολισμό. Ο Ηλίας αναδημοσιεύεται εδώ από την οριστική γερμανική έκδοση, με το κείμενο τόσο στα γερμανικά όσο και στα αγγλικά.
